The goal was to design a user-friendly website that makes planning skiing and snowboarding holidays an intuitive and enjoyable experience. To achieve this, I conducted competitive and user research, created wireframes, and developed a design system that ensured consistency and ease of use.

PROBLEM

So, how do we make the site look exciting and adventurous without distracting users from the booking process?

The competitive research that I conducted, revealed that many travel websites overwhelm users with too many options and cluttered designs, resulting in frustration and decision fatigue. Empathising with the users, I understood their need for ease and clarity in
decision-making.

SOLUTION

Strategic use of white space helped create breathing room for content, avoiding visual overload. This approach ensured the platform felt clean and user-friendly, allowing users to navigate and book their trips effortlessly.

To address this, I focused on reducing cognitive load using Hick’s Law—simplifying choices to make decisions faster and easier.

A Design System for Seamless Experiences

I created a design system that emphasised consistency, clarity, and ease of use. It featured reusable components, a structured grid system, and clear guidelines for typography and colour. The cool-toned palette was carefully chosen to align with stakeholder requirements, avoid overwhelming users, and ensure accessibility for an inclusive and user-friendly experience.

REFLECTIONS

“I found myself wearing a lot of hats”

As a designer, I found myself wearing a lot of hats—working on wireframes, user flows, and the final visual design. It was easy to feel overwhelmed, especially when things were moving fast, and each task required a different mindset. The biggest challenge was staying organised and keeping my focus on the bigger picture without getting lost in the details.

Looking back, I’ve come to embrace the challenge of juggling multiple roles. It pushed me to adapt, prioritise effectively, and expand my skill set. I now see wearing many hats not as a burden but as an opportunity for growth, making me a more versatile and well-rounded designer.
